After decades together—on and off in some moments—Ratt finally retired as a band in 2022. Just two years later, they’ve earned one of the biggest hits ever on one Billboard chart, as their fans are still loving the material that made them glam rock favorites decades ago.
Out Of The Cellar debuts on the Top Album Sales chart this week. Ratt’s first full-length finally reaches Billboard’s list of the best-selling full-lengths and EPs in the country, many years after it was first released.
This week, Out Of The Cellar launches at No. 41 on the purchase-only tally. Luminate reports that the set sold almost 2,400 copies in the past seven-day tracking period, which is a huge sum for a decades-old album.
Sales of Out Of The Cellar rose massively recently. From one week to the next, purchases of the collection improved by more than 5,400%, according to numbers reported by Luminate, which supplies Billboard with sales and streaming data that is then used to compile the weekly charts.
Ratt released Out Of The Cellar in 1984, and it launched them to some level of stardom, if only for a short while. The set was recently shared again, as it just turned 40 years old. The anniversary reissue featured an unreleased track that was recorded in the early ‘80s, and that tune likely helped spur the buying frenzy.
Out Of The Cellar is already Ratt’s second-highest-rising title on the Top Album Sales chart. They’ve only climbed higher with Infestation, which reached No. 30 back in 2010.
Two other projects from Ratt have landed on Billboard’s sales ranking, though they wouldn’t if they were released today. There was a time when the Top Album Sales chart featured more than the 50 rungs that make it up these days. Ratt & Roll ‘81-’91 lifted to No. 57, while their self-titled affair stalled at No. 169. Those positions no longer exist on the tally.
